DRIP, Mesa County Fair, Sutherlands, IMPACT Promotions and Grand Valley BMX teamed up to conserve water and keep 7,300 plastic bottles out of the local landfill. Over 456 gallons of free, ice cold water, the equivalent of 7,300 eight ounce bottles, was handed out to thirsty Mesa County Fair goers and Fair volunteers. Fair goers purchased reusable water bottles or brought their own container for refills!
The Pacific Institute estimates that twice as much water is used in the production process of making bottled water as there is in a bottle of water. Thus, according to its website, http://www.gejiplasticbottles.com/2011/04/how-much-water-for-water/ every gallon of bottled water sold represents three gallons of water. Based on those calculations, “Do the DRIP” saved over 912 gallons of water and 7,300 plastic bottles did not end up as useless waste in the landfill! This was a highly successful “Go Green” team effort!
