The Colorado River and the Gunnison River are responsible for shaping Grand Valley’s past, present and future. From flooding to drought, to agriculture to municipal; water will always remain the lifeline to the West. Campers at the Fruita State Park and Island Acres State Park participated in a presentation by Ute Water on the history of water in the Grand Valley. Attendees learned how local water professionals are aggressively working to protect Western Colorado’s most valuable resource. Things took an exciting turn as Newton’s Three Laws of Motion were put into place with a hands-on activity. Campers, of all ages, launched water rockets into the Colorado sky using only water and air pressure.
